O’Brien made four 3-pointers in the third on her way to a 17-point night as top-seeded Lenox held off Lee for a 50-43 win on Fred Lafave Court. Afterward, O’Brien said she never had a quarter quite like that. “I think we started to get the momentum up,” she said. “We worked together. The energy was up. And the shots just started dropping.” O’Brien’s shots accounted for 12 of Lenox’s 14-points in the period as the Millionaires opened a 37-29 lead after being up by just two, 23-21, at half-time. “When some girls aren’t shooting well, our mentality is just keep shooting,” Lenox coach Nicole Patella said. “We have all the confidence in the world in all of our shooters. Claire was the hot one tonight. She really put the game in her own hands and took care of it tonight. That was great to see.” O’Brien’s fifth and final 3-pointer of the second half gave Lenox its biggest lead of the night, 48-36, with about 2 minutes, 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter. But Lee rallied in the short time left, finally getting within seven when Mika Diller (12 points, 13 rebounds) scored in the post to make it 50-43. But only 33.7 seconds remained at that point, and the Millionaires never got another good look at the basket. But after losses by 23 points and 10 points to Lenox in the regular season, the Wildcats (11-8) gave their fans a good look at what the future could hold for a team that has just one senior and one junior on the roster. “They didn’t quit,” Lee coach Rick Puleri said. “They played with guts. They played hard. And this is a tough place to win against a really good team. Lenox is going to be a top-three seed in the state, and playing in their gym, it takes a lot to be ‘em in their gym. “I’m proud of our kids for their effort. It’s nothing to hang their heads about.” Lee was anything but intimidated against its rival early on. The Wildcats went blow-for-blow in the early going and led midway through the second quarter. After the Millionaires’ Chloe Parsenios (11 points, nine steals) scored five straight to give the hosts a 12-7 lead at the end of the first, Lee’s Kenzie Garrity opened the second period with a triple to cut the margin to two. Grace Julieano (eight points, nine rebounds) scored to make it 14-10, but Lee answered with a seven-point run to take the lead. Leanna Driscoll got back-to-back buckets, and Garrity hit her second triple of the game to put the Wildcats up, 17-14. It was 19-18 when Parsenios got a steal and lay-up to give Lenox a one-point lead with 1 minute, 16 seconds left in the half. Evelyn Julieano’s 3 pushed the lead to four points before Mia Puleri (10 points) scored to get Lee within two at the break. Lenox’s Jocelyn Fairfield, who picked up some early fouls in the first half, scored the first of her seven second-half points with a jumper from the baseline to start the second half. Diller again made it a two-point game when she was fouled trying to put back an offensive rebound and made both her free throws with 5:54 on the clock to make it 25-23. The next nine points came on 3-pointers from O’Brien. “I don’t know if we lost touch with them,” Rick Puleri said. “They’re so well balanced. And I know the O’Brien girl can shoot. We talked about running them off the 3-point line and trying to really contain Parsenios and Fairfield. “You’ve got to give [O’Brien] credit. She stepped up and made some big shots. That was about it.” Lee will play one more crossover game against a PVIAC opponent to finish the regular season at home on Wednesday before getting ready for next week’s Division 5 State Tournament. Congratulations to the Lenox Quiz Team for another outstanding performance at the 2024 Blender Bowl. 14 teams from 10 different high schools participated. LMMHS had three teams in the competition. The Lenox A team went undefeated in their 4 qualifying matches and went into the playoffs as the number one seed. The Lenox B team had three wins in qualifying matches and entered the playoffs as the number three seed. The Lenox C team came up just short of the playoffs winning two qualifying matches. The Lenox A team defeated the Frontier Regional team (also undefeated going into the championship match). The championship match was close, with Lenox edging out Frontier by 2 points. Congratulations to each of the three Lenox teams that competed! Lenox's Morris Elementary School First Graders Compete in First Annual Math Olympics Principal Brenda Kelley shares that Morris Elementary first graders recently demonstrated their math skills at the school's inaugural Math Olympics. Approximately 50 first-grade students were joined by teachers, math coaches, and several parents at the Lenox Community Center to participate in the Math Olympics. Students competed in six math-centered events, all of which were aligned to an area of the Grade 1 math standards. Some events included the "Long Jump" to measure non-standard units, the "20 Yard Dash" to find numbers on a 120 chart, as well as "Math Musical Chairs." Students also participated in a game called "The Lunge" – a version of the game "Hungry, Hungry Hippos" – where students laid on scooters and collected balls marked with numbers. After collecting as many as possible, students then put them in order from least to greatest. After students competed in all six events, the group walked back to Morris. All students received a gold medal for their participation at a grade-wide assembly later in the day. "We wanted to hold this event because when we add movement and fun into our core academic content, kids get excited and want to participate. The kids had a blast doing math – maybe they didn't even realize that they were doing it," said Grade 1 Teacher Shannon O'Brien. "We are so thankful for the support of the Lenox Community Center and the adults who helped us to pull off such a fun event. Not all kids love math, but the hope is more do now!"

LENOX — Principal Jeremiah Ames is pleased to share that LMMHS is partnering with the Anti-Defamation League’s Peer Training Program to provide anti-bias and anti-bullying training to students. 26 LMMHS students – including 11 sophomores, 12 juniors, and three seniors – are participating in training to become Peer Training Advisors, facilitated by World of Difference Institute Director Phil Fogelman and ADL Training Consultant Diane Drakes. The first training dates occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 13 and Thursday, Dec. 14. The final training date will be held on Friday, Jan. 5. After completing the training, these students will run anti-bias and anti-bullying workshops for other LMMHS students throughout the year. Through the ADL’s A World of Difference Institute Peer Training Program, Peer Trainers learn to understand and challenge bias and bullying; practice anti-bias facilitation skills; and take on a leadership role in their schools, positively influencing school culture by modeling respect, allyship, and civility. Student advisors are Business and Technology Teacher Heather McNeice and English Teacher Scott Wade. "We are excited about the difference these peer leaders can make and hope they can lead discussions that will help LMMHS become an even more inclusive place where all students feel welcome and safe," said Principal Ames. "Each of these students embodies Lenox's values of creating a 'Brave and Safe Space' and we look forward to seeing what they accomplish in the future."

LENOX — Principal Jeremiah Ames is pleased to share that the Lenox Memorial Middle High School Robotics program recently received an $8,000 grant from General Dynamics and the United States Navy to purchase new equipment. The $8,000 in funding was used to purchase 20 new Lego SPIKE Prime kits, which are now being utilized by Lenox students. Two of the kits were donated by Robotics Teacher Matthew Coté to the newly reestablished Middle School Robotics Club. The last time LMMHS had a middle school robotics team was in 2012. Coté has been using Lego Robotics since 2006 in his Grade 8 curriculum. Recently, Lego decided to phase out its old line and replace it with its new line, Lego SPIKE Prime. Coté decided to apply for grant funding to obtain this new equipment through a grant program courtesy of General Dynamics and the United States Navy. The District was notified that it had received a $8,000 grant in early December. The new Lego SPIKE Prime kits will be used in Berkshire Robotics Challenge in March. The Middle School Robotics Club will practice for the annual competition using the donated kits. Coté is acting as co-advisor to the club along with SPED Paraprofessional Amanda Terzigni, and is also the lead mentor for the High School Robotics Club. “I cannot thank General Dynamics and the Navy enough for this grant funding,” said Coté.
