The Department of Student Services operates a full-day Integrated Preschool Program at the Morris Elementary School for children who are three and four years old by September 1st and are residents of Lenox. The Preschool Program is integrated; that is, it serves both children who have been identified as having special needs as well as “typical” peer role models. Children identified as having special needs are guaranteed service; there are a limited number of openings available for typical peers each year. Two preschool classes are currently in operation at Morris Elementary from 8:10 to 2:30 daily.
Research studies indicate that early identification and remediation of potential learning problems improves school performance in later years. The Lenox Department of Student Services offers an annual screening for young children from Lenox and Lenox Dale. The purpose of the screening is to identify children who may have substantial needs in speech/language, cognitive, emotional/social or physical development. If there are concerns raised, children will be further evaluated and may be eligible to receive special education services. Parents who would like to have their child considered for the preschool program as a typical (non-special needs) child, MUST also have their child participate in this screening. A lottery system is used to choose typical peers.
Screenings will take place Thursday, March 7, 2024 and Friday, March 8, 2024
Please complete the Pre-K Screening Packet prior to your child’s screening appointment and bring with you to the appointment.
